This boom box won't last long. Poor value.1
Our daughter listens to CDs every day - sometimes several times per day. To say her player gets a lot of use is an understatement. Although my daughter loved that this player was Disney Princess branded and a jewelry box, it's really more of a novelty item than a boom box, and didn't last for more than a few months. The overall item was still in good shape, but the player began to not be able to read CDs fairly frequently until it stopped reading them altogether. For whatever reason, we bought another and the same thing happened within 6 months. For $50, I would definitely rate this a poor value.

junk = disappointed daughter1
this lasted 5 months with little use. only has 90 day warranty for a reason. avoid!

Overpriced1
This CD player is on sale for $39.99 at Sears. This product is way overpriced!!!

The JVC RV-NB1 Kaboom Series Boombox is a powerful CD/MP3 portable player with a funky feature -- a built-in guitar amp featuring twin super woofers for massive sound and rich, deep bass tones. This unit will play CDs, CD-R/RWs, and MP3, so you can access your favorite tunes from virtually anywhere in your music library. The RV-NB1 also plays all your old favorites on cassette and delivers clear AM/FM radio. The tuner stores 15 AM and 30 FM stations in its memory for quick tuning at the touch of a button.

This Kaboom boombox delivers big sound with 52 watts of total power. With this power backing, the RV-NB1's super exciter bass circuit is able to achieve deep, rich bass tones through the dual 6.3125-inch subwoofers. Meanwhile, the active clear sound (ACS) feature improves the other frequencies' clarity for an excellent balance with the deep lows. If the bass levels seem a bit too strong, then you can use the independent subwoofer volume control to keep the bass tones from overwhelming the overall sound. Plus, this boombox features four preset equalization settings -- flat, beat, pop, and clear -- so you can set your levels with the push of a button.

The CD player and cassette deck have twist-doors to keep your music in place and playing. Keep the hits rolling with continuous, repeat, and random play settings on the Kaboom CD player and the auto-reverse transport function on the tape deck. You'll be thrilled as tunes just keep pouring out of the dual 3.1875-inch front-firing, full-range speakers.

Added features such as the carrying strap, remote control, AUX input, clock/timer with sleep and wake-up, and backlit illuminated LCD display make the Kaboom RV-NB1 an excellent choice for any room in your house or for music on the go.

What's in the Box
RV-NB1 boombox, remote control, and carrying strap.

This Box Rocks5
If you need big sound and the ability to play MP3 discs, this is the one to get. I work in a factory and it is a noisy environment. There are also other radios and boomboxes to compete with. I wanted a radio that could be heard above the ambient noise and also had the ability to blow away my coworkers' boxes! I have not been disapointed. The JVC RVNB1 gets very loud. At full volume it is painful to the ears if you are closer than about three feet. The subs pump out very powerful and clean base. You can really feel the
puffs of air being ejected from the ports. It surprises people when they walk by and feel the air coming out. The subs have a seperate volume control so the effect can be modulated. As for the overall quality of the sound, i would rate it as very good. I usually listen to rock/pop music at work and this radio excells at this type of music. The powerfull bass really helps. I haven't really listened to classical or jazz so i can't say how they would sound but it should be good.
One of the main reasons that prompted me to buy this product was it's MP3 capability. I did alot of research and there really aren't alot of options for MP3 boomboxes that put out big sound. maybe this will change as more products come out, but for now i think this is your best bet. i made several discs using my PC and they worked perfectly in the JVC unit. it takes about 30 seconds for the unit to read the disc before it plays. It's really nice to be able to have a CD that can play up to 8 hours of music. this is especially helpful in a work place, as the boss may not like his workers fiddling with boomboxes.
Another cool feature of this beast is it's remote control unit. This fits into a handy pouch on the shoulder strap, so as not to get lost. It is a full size remote that can control all functions of the player, including the volume of the subwoofers. I find it very useful at work as i am often restricted in my movements- ie:
working on an assembly line several feet from the radio. the layout of the controls on the remote are very logical and easy to use. the same can be said of the controls on the radio itself.
In summary, this is a great boombox. If you need a big boomer that can play MP3s it may be the only way to go. It is rather spendy at $250 but i found it to be a good value in it's performance and features. It is heavy at 23 lbs. I usually carry it by the handles on the ends rather than the shoulder strap. Either way, it is not easy to haul around. If you are looking for portability this is not a good choice for you. I don't leave my radio at work as i fear it will grow legs. Hauling it in and out from my car each day is a hassle but i put up with it because of the performance of the radio. I really don't want to be without the great sound it provides. This unit looks to be very tough in construction and i am expecting it to last a long time. I have only had it for about 3 months but so far so good. I like the locking mechanisms on the CD and cassette units. Speaking of cassettes, i have never used mine so i can't comment on that. One thing i don't really like, apart from the bulk and weight, is the
overall appearance. It is grey and light grey in color. I find it rather drab. I was actually considering doing a paint job on it to dress it up. Anyway, these are my oppinions and impressions of this fine product. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for big sound and MP3 capability who is willing to put up with it's weight and bulkiness.

Excellent for standard music CDs and MP3 CDs BUT3
I did not purchase this through Amazon but as a regular Amazon customer I felt obligated to review this product for my fellow "Amazoners." Everything about this product is excellent and worthy of 5 stars except for the radio reception which is ABSOLUTELY horrible. This device is incapable of picking up nearby stations that all the others radios & receivers that I own can easily pick up, and that would be 5 if you include my car radio. Another strange thing is the way it handles some stations. For example, 101.1 and 101.5 are powerful stations where I live. 101.5 is more powerful though. What the radio does for some reason is receive 101.5 on 101.1, 101.2, 101.3, 101.4, 101.5, 101.6, and 101.7, with only 101.5 actually coming in clear. It does the same thing on all frequencies. So, even though it comes with 30 FM presets, you probably will only be able to use about 10 if you are lucky...and I live close by both New York City AND Philadelphia! Again, music CDs and MP3 CDs sound superb, but I also bought this as an FM radio and for that it is horrible. I am very disappointed for a device like this that costs as much as it does. One final warning: Read carefully its dimensions AND weight! This thing is huge and heavy. Don't think you are going to tote this thing around like a "regular" portable radio because that just isn't going to happen. I hope you find this information helpful.

A Party Entertainer's perfect piece of Equipment5
I bought this product after thorough research and sending back another product that was just too large to carry easily.

If you are a magician, clown, or belly dancer, or some other kind of party entertainer this is the perfect portable, all-in-one durable piece of equipment on the market at this time for dragging to gigues. The guitar amp is also for large pin microphone and has a mixing knob (thus it does Karaoke: you can sing with the music). You will not find this in any other description, not even JVCs. I had to buy the product to see what it really can do.

It has no-nonsense buttons, you don't have to read the instructions to operate it and the sound is clear and LOUD.

A great item for the investment, I think I can will it to my kids.

XM Boombox5
I got this today and I am blown away... great sound and great reception... had an attena inside the box that can be extended to a window or outside... or just left inside the box. Just leaving it inside the unit worked great. It has super sound. I couldn't be more happy with this purchase. I use it with an INNO and the adapter sold separatly. The Bass is great... really fills my loft where I listen to it. Really makes my Inno a home unit as well as a portable. Now I don't need to go in the car to hear XM. Also the unit can be battery powered or plugged into the wall. It has a handle to take anywhere. Horay... this is a real winner. BTW he name on the box is Delphi Premium Sound System... I don't know what the diff is for the table model but this one is all I could want for a home system.

Expand the usefulness of your XM receiver4
Unit works great for expanding the usefulness of your XM radio to your desk or home.

The only unit available that works with the XpressRC XM receiver, the unit works well. Sound quality is good, and design is generally good. A switch keeps you from accidentally draining the batteries when AC power is available, and a removable antenna with a generous amount of cable allows you reposition the antenna for best performance.

The unit does not protect the XpressRC real well; it could be damaged if you were carrying the unit around much. Also, the speaker grilles, though well made, are metal and could dent relatively easily.

Overall, I'm pleased with the purchase; just don't plan this unit for a knock-about radio that you are not being fairly careful with during it's use.

Very Good XM BoomBox4
Delphi SA10221 XM Premium Sound System (Portable Satellite Radio Boombox) is a must have if you spend time by the pool, at the beach, hot tub, lounging on your deck or camping. It's also very convenient for indoor listening.

This system allows you to take your portable XM receiver out of your car and listen to clear XM reception anywhere you want.

The convenience is the key factor. You're paying a monthly fee so why not enjoy your reception anytime of the day.

The sound quality is good. The sound is clear even at top volume. The Bass Boost adds richness to the already clear sound. This system is comparable to the sound of most higher end boom boxes. Note that this isn't a Bose system and doesn't compare with a high or good quality book shelf stereo system, but is very sufficient for portable listening.

My Delphi XM receiver was simply plug and play. One neat feature is using the remote for volume control. While you can turn the volume up and down with the buttons on the unit, the + and - buttons on the remote convert to volume controls when used with the Premium Sound System.

Another feature is the ability to add a repeater antenna. I have a repeater transponder in the house already for my home dock and I purchased an additional antenna for the boom box so we get great reception on the boom box anywhere around the house - whether inside or out.

My family has really enjoyed our boom box on the deck by the hot tube or just relaxing out side. I highly recommend this product. Get the most out of your XM receiver!

A Hulk of a Boombox5
A quick caveat before I review. As of 5/12/2006 the Sony site (and Sears, too) still says this boombox takes 'C' batteries. It doesn't, it takes 'D' size, though a quantity of 6 is correct. I can't see that Amazon has included battery info. one way or the other.

This is truly an Industrial Strength boombox - extremely rugged. I bought one for my handicapped daughter, who needs almost constant music to keep her happy, but has been pretty rough on past boomboxes. This one ought to last.

It is significantly larger than the average portable boombox, so pay attention to the dimensions and weight to see if it's a fit for you.

The only weak spot is the antenna, which my daughter managed to break the first day. Be careful how you restore it to its telescoped slot. We can't find a replacement antenna yet.

Also, it lists on the Sony site and at Sears for $129.99, so I don't know where this site got a list price of $179.99.

A significant Upgrade to the Sony S25
Terms

S2 = Sony ZS-XN30 Multi-Codec S2 Sports CD/Tuner Boombox (White)
H10 = Sony ZS-H10CP Heavy Duty CD Radio Boombox

Background: I bought the H10 to replace a defunct S2. I use three S2s and one H10 daily (and simultaneously) at a swimming pool, so I compare them daily.

My biggest surprise is that, contrary to what the specs imply, the H10 sounds twice as loud as the S2. Perhaps this is due in large part to the H10's significantly better base: there is noticeably more of it, and it is very clean (has low distortion). I play the S2 with the Mega Bass button on, yet the H10 bass is so pronounced and clean that I leave the its Mega Bass off. "Specs imply" means that the specifications state that the H10 = 2.3 watts per speaker vs 2.0 watts for the S2.

The H10 is significantly easier to use than the S2: The S2's up-down Volume buttons have been replaced with a large dial, the S2's jog control whose operation baffled water aerobic instructors has been replaced with clearly marked buttons, and that aggravating push-to-open CD cover has been replaced with a cover that has a hinge lock. And since the CD cover of two of my three S2's is nonfunctional, my guess is that this new hinge-lock cover will be more durable.

On the H10 but not on the S2 are: Line-in (for tape players and ipods), and a storage compartment. The latter is large enough both for both the H10's wall plug and a line-in jack (not provided).

The H10 is noticeably heavier than the S2, about the same width and depth, and twice the S2's heigth. Also, the black-red motif is much more in-your-face than the subtle white of the S2.

8/17/06 Update: At least twice the controls have locked up; that is, the controls have acted as if a "Hold" switch was turned on, except the H2 has no such switch. Both times removing the batteries solved the problem. I deduce that this is caused by some combination of relatively uncommon button-pushing.
7/27/09 Update: Absolutely no lockup since the Summer of '06.

In summary, the H10 both sounds better and is significantly easier to operate than the S2.

10/16/06 Update: I've started adapting to limited floorspace by playing the H10 on its side; note that it is designed to be able to do so.

11/7/06 Update: The H10 sounds so much better than the S2 that I replaced all three S2s with H10s.

7/27/09 Update:
1. To get maximum performance at maximum volume, plug the H10 in, to either a wall socket or an external battery, like the Duracell Powersource Mobile 100.
2. Lasts longer poolside than any other boombox I know of: Most boomboxes last about 6 months poolside; in contrast, the two H10's lasted for more than two years of daily (Monday through Friday) use; then their CD players stopped working at about the same time.

Excellent Product5
I searched high and low for a product like this and seriously, this was the only one that had it all ... plays regular and mp3 CDs, AM/FM radio, line-in for any external player from laptops to mp3 players, no useless cassette player to get in the way and most importantly, it has GREAT sound; plenty of volume and bass response. Yes, it's heavy duty. It is rugged enough to take along to the work site, keep in the garage, take camping, you name it; it has sealed compartments and speaker guards to protect from dust or hits; it has a sturdy handle built into a protective frame; it has a small enough footprint to sit on most standard shelves ... also, it has a smarter, simpler look that I appreciate; it doesn't look like some sci-fi robot or a work of abstract art ... it is surprisingly light since the power supply is contained with the AC adapter (some might find it a negative to have to lug around a heavier, bulky AC adapter, but it depends on your perspective). The unit also contains a storage compartment for line-in cords, head phones or mp3 players. Like I said, it is hard to find any other product that completely rivals this unit in it's price range. Highly recommended if you need a rugged player with great sound, mp3 capabilities and line-in feature. I am really enjoying mine.
